The Jamestown College Concert Band will present its Home Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Reiland Fine Arts Center's DeNault Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert follows the band's fall tour Nov. 12-14, which includes performances at Oak Grove Lutheran School, Fargo, and Linden Christian School and Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute, both Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Soloists are Chris Mahan, adjunct instructor of percussion at Jamestown College, and student saxophonist Chris Brandt. The band performs under the direction of Benjamin D. Schneider, Director of Bands and Orchestra.
"I am very proud to be taking this talented group of students to represent Jamestown College in this state and in Canada," Schneider said. "The ensemble has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past 3 1/2 years, and I can say with sincerity that it is the strongest group with whom I have been fortunate to work here. I think that audiences will be impressed with both their technical facility and musical sensitivity. Our program has something for everyone, from the boisterous energy of Bernstein's 'A Musical Toast,' the angular tension of Hass 'Lost in the Funhouse,' the solo virtuosity of faculty member Chris Mahan playing xylophone on rags by Green and student Chris Brandt 'Flight of the Bumblebee' on saxophone, to the evocative 'Cloudburst' by Whitacre and deeply moving 'Kingfishers Catch Fire' by Mackey. We hope that music lovers in the region will join us for our return home."
