The Jamestown Fire Department and Jamestown Rural Fire Department were called out within 2 minutes of each other Wednesday, April 15, to small fires.
The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was dispatched at 1:17 p.m. to 8600 35th St. SE, the paved road that leads to Cavendish, said Brian Paulson, JRFD chief.
Paulson said a road maintainer went down the road, came off gravel by Cavendish with the blade a bit low which threw sparks in the ditch, so small spot fires were spread out for about a mile.
Four units and eight firefighters spent a total of about 30 minutes on the call, Paulson said. There was no real damage, he said.

Lt. Sheldon Mohr of the Fire Department said the call came in at 1:19 p.m. and firefighters were at the site for about 30 minutes.
He said the fire was likely caused by smoking materials and estimated the damage at about $1,000 to the dumpster.
Four trucks and 18 firefighters were at the scene, he said. The dumpster is located behind the business.
