GRAND FORKS (AP) -- A district judge will limit the public's ability to see a videotape during the trial of man charged with sexual assault against a minor.
Eric Slominski, 23, of Minto, is charged with four counts of gross sexual imposition. He has pleaded not guilty. The complaint said Slominski assaulted and videotaped a 17-year-old girl in his home while she lay unconscious.
Prosecutors asked Northeast District Court Judge Richard Geiger to close the portion of the trial that shows the videotape of the alleged assault. Geiger said if the video is shown, "arrangements will be made in the courtroom to limit and control those who may be allowed to view it."
Trial is scheduled next month in Grafton.
Walsh County State's Attorney Barb Whelan argued that showing the video in open court would violate state and federal laws against child pornography. Geiger said the video display will be set up so only the jury can see it.

Whelan also pointed out a state law protecting children from testimony about them in open court. Geiger said the law doesn't apply because the alleged victim is now 18.
Slominski also is accused of videotaping another 17-year-old girl while she was showering in his bathroom. He has pleaded not guilty to that charge.
