BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Hundreds of North Dakota cows bred to withstand brutal cold are being shipped in jumbo jets from Fargo to Kazakhstan to help build the nation's beef industry.
Bismarck-based Global Beef Consultants LLC says it began shipping cattle last year to the central Asian country.
Company President Bill Price says more than 2,600 cows were shipped last year on Boeing 747 freighters to Astana (uh-STAW'-nuh), the capital of Kazakhstan. He says about the same number of cattle will be shipped this year, under a deal with the former Soviet republic's government.
Price says this year's flights began last week from the Fargo airport. He says about two flights are planned weekly, with about 200 cows per flight.
