BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The body of Art Link was brought to the state Capitol's Memorial Hall on Friday to lie in state for members of the public to pay their respects.
The former North Dakota governor, congressman and state legislator died Tuesday at age 96. His casket was carried into the Capitol by members of the North Dakota National Guard.
Link's funeral is scheduled Saturday, with burial in Alexander on Sunday.
Rick Collin with the State Historical Society says Link was the oldest living governor in North Dakota history. The second-oldest was Frederick Fancher, who served as governor from 1899-1901 and died in 1944 at age 91. Former Gov. William Guy will turn 91 on Sept. 30 of this year.
Collin says it is an "extraordinary event" for an official to lie in state at the Capitol.
