DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) -- The Make-A-Wish Foundation has helped organize Alaskan deep-sea fishing trip for a 20-year-old Dickinson man.
The Dickinson Press reports that Matthew Jahner was granted his wish after being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in November 2008 while attending Dickinson High School.
Jahner was treated at the Mayo Clinic and was in remission by the end of December 2008, but he still needed one year of extensive chemo treatments.
In March 2010, he began the maintenance treatments in Bismarck, receiving injection chemo and spinal taps every 28 days. He'll continue those until April 2012.
Jahner and his father Dan Jahner left Bismarck Sept. 3 for Anchorage, and then flew to the Wilderness Beach Lodge on Kodiak Island. Over a week, they caught a variety of cod, halibut and salmon.
