DEVILS LAKE, N.D. - A Devils Lake man has been accused of assaulting a police officer.
Timothy Benjamin Olson, 53, was charged with simple assault on a police officer or correctional institution employee, a Class C felony, and preventing arrest or discharge of duties, a Class A misdemeanor.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Monday when Devils Lake police officers responded to a home after a caller reported a man “throwing and breaking things,” according to the criminal complaint.
Olson allegedly approached the officers while “kicking and swinging a burning sage bundle,” according to the complaint. The officer then used a Taser device on Olson when he allegedly resisted being placed in handcuffs.
Olson had to be restrained in the back of the squad car after he attempted to kick out a window in the vehicle, according to the complaint.
The report indicated the police officer was kicked in the left knee during the incident.
A date for Olson to appear before a judge had not been set as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
