MINOT (AP) -- Minot police say a San Diego man has been charged with possession of a poisonous spider.
The Minot Daily News reported that the black widow spider was found in a container in 22-year-old Matthew Smith's motel room on Friday.
Police said officials from the Minot zoo confirmed that the insect was a female black widow spider.
Authorities said possession of a poisonous spider is a misdemeanor under city ordinance.
