MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A man drowned in Nelson-Carlson Lake southwest of Minot after his canoe tipped in high winds.
Authorities did not immediately identify the man, who is believed to be in his fifties. His body was recovered after a witness reported the accident that occurred about 15 yards from shore in wind-whipped, choppy waters late Tuesday morning.
Dive teams from Ward County and Garrison responded to the scene and recovered the body about 6 p.m.
The Ward County Sheriff's Office says there were life jackets inside the canoe but the man was not wearing one.
