BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. is likely to get a 7.9 percent increase in its North Dakota electric rates this week.
MDU has asked for the interim rate increase while North Dakota's Public Service Commission considers its request for a larger increase. It would affect almost 80,000 MDU electric customers in North Dakota.
Commission staffers say the increase is justified. It would allow MDU to collect $7.6 million more each year in electric payments from customers.
The Public Service Commission is expected to vote on the request Wednesday. It is part of a larger rate increase that MDU requested last April. It would cost North Dakota ratepayers about $15.4 million a year.
