MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- Sen. Kent Conrad says the Air Force has authorized up to $250,000 in emergency funding to help Minot Air Force Base airmen whose homes were damaged by Souris River flooding earlier this year.
The North Dakota Democrat says the money will pay for airmen from around the country and tradesmen from around North Dakota to travel to Minot and help with repairs. Conrad says that also will help free up civilian contractors to work on other housing needs in the city.
The Souris River flooded more than 4,000 homes and businesses in North Dakota's fourth-largest city. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz toured Minot in early October and said the military would take steps to help the more than 1,100 airmen and their families affected by the flooding.
