MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A Minot man and woman accused of beating her 19-month-old son to death have changed their pleas on murder charges to guilty.

The Minot Daily News reports that under terms of the plea agreements with prosecutors, 20-year-old Cassondra Ayala is to serve a 22-year jail sentence and 33-year-old boyfriend Anthony Robinson 27 years behind bars. Both could have faced life in prison if convicted.

The state medical examiner determined that Conrad Ayala died in February from "blunt head injury in battered child syndrome." Authorities say the boy was covered "head to foot" with bruises.
