Keith Struble introduced Marva Miska, American Legion Auxiliary Girls State chairwoman, and Katie Conlon, who attended Girls State, who spoke at the Kiwanis noon luncheon meeting July 16 at the Lantern Room. Miska said all girls who are juniors in high school are eligible to attend. She said there was a lastminute schedule conflict for one of the girls, so those attending from Jamestown included Conlin, Cara O'Higgins, Molly Slaby, Kelly Gruegel and Cally Musland.
Conlon talked about Girls State, which was June 3-8 on the campus of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. There were more than 260 girls in attendance. They spent the week studying government on the local, state and federal levels as taught by UND professors. Elections were held on the city, county and state levels. Wings of the dorm were the 12 cities with about 22 girls in each city.
President Bob Welsh presided at the meeting. Don and Sharon Caine led the singing. Norman Winkelman collected happy dollars for Camp Rokiwan.
Kim Murray represented Jamestown Kiwanis at the 52nd Annual Peace Garden Association meeting July 14 at the Peace Chapel and the Errik Willis Pavilion. Lowell Jensen of Bismarck received the Past President Award and the incoming president, Lyle Ramsey, Brandon, Assiniboine Club, was introduced to the group.
Galen Rasmussen is in charge of the program at the Kiwanis Spouses Day luncheon meeting at noon July 30 at the Lantern Room.
