The Stutsman County Everbridge alert system is being credited with helping to locate a Carrington man who had become lost in the northern part of the county, according to Chad Kaiser, Stutsman County sheriff.
Kaiser said they had been alerted by Foster County authorities that Arvin Ellingson, 87, was missing. Ellingson had been in contact with his brother and said he was lost and low on gas.
"They determined he might be in Stutsman County," Kaiser said.
The Stutsman County Communications Center issued an Everbridge alert at 10:19 a.m. Kaiser said officials were also considering a statewide Silver Alert but that proved not to be necessary.
"Everbridge works," he said. "I was in dispatch and as soon as the Everbridge Alert went out we had about 15 calls."

By about 10:30 a.m., Ellingson's location was verified.
Kaiser said one of the callers was located north of Woodworth and reported Ellingson was at their location and well. Deputies then responded to the scene.
The Stutsman County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the North Dakota Highway Patrol and Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
