The meeting of James-town's first city council was celebrated Saturday, 100 years after the event took place, with a program at Thompson Auditorium and a ball later in the evening.

The kickoff for the city's centennial celebration included two musical tributes, the first provided by students in all six grades at Washington and Roosevelt schools. The students, as well as their director, music instructor Dave Morlock, dressed for the occasion in centennial garb.

The Jamestown Choralaires, under the direction of Joe banister, presented selections from their upcoming spring concert.

A centennial drama, first seen at the Chamber of Commerce banquet January 29, was reenacted with help from Washington School's first grade students, taught by Jane Kamletz and Barb Enger, and fourth grade students, taught by Dorothy Oster and Joyce Nasland.

The students' dramatic contributions were part of a centennial pageant presented earlier at the school.

At the program's conclusion, cake and punch were served to all attending. The treats were supplied by Burlington Northern and served by a crew headed up by Hattie Austin and Evelyn Nielsen.
