Montpelier crash victim identified

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a Montpelier man who died in an accident near that city Monday.

Darrel Kirschenman, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred on N.D. Highway 46 about 6 miles south of Montpelier at 6:30 p.,m.

Kirschenman was traveling eastbound on Highway 46 in 1983 Jeep when it was struck from behind by a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Damon Smith of Litchville, N.D. Both vehicles entered the ditch with the Jeep rolling. Smith was transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for treatment before being released.

The accident remains under investigation.
