Red River Women's Clinic opens at new Moorhead location

The clinic that provides abortion services is vacating its downtown Fargo location in anticipation of North Dakota's abortion "trigger" law taking effect Aug. 26 following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling that nullified Roe v. Wade.

FARGO — North Dakota's only abortion clinic has reopened in a new location in neighboring Moorhead, Minnesota.

The Red River Women's Clinic opened in an office building at 302 Highway 75 N. on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

There is no exterior sign advertising the clinic at this point, but a buzzer in the secure entryway of the building was labeled as such.

The clinic's move to Moorhead signifies the end of abortion care in North Dakota unless the state's abortion ban is overturned.

Protesters and clinic escorts were outside the downtown Fargo clinic location Wednesday morning. It's unclear if appointments were being offered at both locations.

Last week, a half-dozen or so people gathered outside the building housing the clinic, which was still undergoing construction at the time.

Members of 40 Days for Life, a grassroots movement to end abortion, are among a coalition of groups stating their intent to prevent the Red River Women's Clinic from opening in Moorhead.

PLAM Action is a new branch of the long-established Pro-Life Action Ministries and is leading the coalition.

The group announced it is holding a "Life Rally" on Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in a tent outside at 2406 Second Ave. N. in Moorhead.

North Dakota's near complete abortion ban was first set to begin July 28, but in the wake of a lawsuit filed on behalf of Red River Women's Clinic , a judge ruled North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley “prematurely attempted to execute the triggering language” of the law.

The abortion ban is now set to take effect in North Dakota on Friday, Aug. 26, barring other developments.
