The Jamestown Vector Control department is scheduled to spray recreational and park areas starting at dusk today. The spraying is contingent on weather conditions.
"Because of the long weekend and the high level of outdoor activities in the parks and recreational areas we are spraying now," said Steve Reidburn, Jamestown vector control officer. "Forecasts for wind conditions later in the week don't look good so we are spraying now."
The mosquito adulticide Anvil will be used. Parents are advised to keep children and pets out of the streets and away from the spray equipment. Motorists are urged to use caution in the area of the spray equipment.
Anvil is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used because of its compatibility with the environment and low toxicity and level of irritation.
