Mugambi to speak here

The Jamestown College Look Beyond Committee and Chogoria Committee are hosting a presentation by K.K. Mugambi of Village Hopecore International, Chogoria, Kenya, at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Nafus Student Center Level Two.

The Jamestown College Look Beyond Committee and Chogoria Committee are hosting a presentation by K.K. Mugambi of Village Hopecore International, Chogoria, Kenya, at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Nafus Student Center Level Two.

The event is free and open to the public. An art exhibit will be on display and refreshments will be provided.

Mugambi is the founder, president and CEO of Village Hopecore International, a microlending firm that provides small loans to men and women to help start or expand self-sustaining businesses. The agency's goal is to eradicate poverty and create a sustainable economy through the provision of microcredit to Kenyan villagers.

Mugambi is also a member of the Kenya National Commission for Human Rights, Oversight Committee for the Greater Meru Tribal Community. Born and raised in Chogoria, he received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a doctorate of law at UCLA.

Jamestown College students who traveled to Chogoria earlier this year will also be on hand to share thoughts from their experience.
