BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota's agriculture commissioner says his recent illness won't prevent him from running for election next year.
Doug Goehring has spent several days in the hospital with a recurrence of Guillain-Barre syndrome. It's a disease that can cause muscle weakness and paralysis.
Goehring attended a state Industrial Commission meeting on Friday. He said it made him fatigued, but he believes he's recovering.
Goehring says he was first diagnosed with the illness 18 years ago. He says back then it took him a year to shake the fatigue. Goehring says now, there are better treatments for the disease and his recovery is coming much more quickly.
Gov. John Hoeven appointed Goehring as the state's agriculture commissioner last April. The Republican farmer from Menoken has run for the office twice, and both times he lost to incumbent Democrat Roger Johnson.

Hoeven picked Goehring for the job after Johnson resigned to become president of the National Farmers Union in Washington, D.C.
