BISMARCK (AP) -- State regulators have approved a $3.4 million oil pipeline near Belfield.
Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk told The Dickinson Press that the Whiting Petroleum Corp. pipeline will help bring to market more oil from western North Dakota's booming energy fields.
Construction of the 7-mile pipeline is to be done by the end of the year. Officials said it has the potential to replace nearly 275 trucks a day.
Kalk said whooping crane migration was a concern of regulators. Pipeline construction will stop if workers spot one of the endangered birds within a mile of the site.
