N.D. gets $666,000 to promote specialty crops

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota's Agriculture Department is getting about $666,000 in federal grant money to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota's Agriculture Department is getting about $666,000 in federal grant money to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops.

The funding announced by the federal Agriculture Department on Friday is going to all 50 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

A total of $55 million is being awarded to fund 827 projects to help specialty crop growers market their products and encourage Americans to increase their fruit and vegetable consumption.

Specialty crops are defined as fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops, including floriculture.
