BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakotans now can register online to be organ and tissue donors.

The state announced the new online registry Monday. It adds an option for people who until now have had to make their donor decisions known through their driver's license or state identification card.

The new registry is in memory of Alexa Kersting, a 14 year-old West Fargo girl who died while waiting for a lung transplant in 2004.

Officials say North Dakota has one of the highest donor registration rates in the country at 64 percent of the state's licensed drivers.

Susan Gunderson, the chief executive officer of LifeSource, a regional group that works with organ donors, says the state is a ``shining example' of giving.
