BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The operator of North Dakota's biggest coal-fired power plant is touting technology that improves efficiency and cuts pollution.

Great River Energy is unveiling its drying and refining process on Thursday at its Coal Creek Station near Underwood in central North Dakota. Gov. John Hoeven, North Dakota's congressional delegation and about 500 industry representatives are slated to attend.

Great River spokesman Lyndon Anderson says the company has worked for more than a decade developing the process that uses waste heat from the factory to remove water from lignite.

He says drier coal creates more energy and lessens the amount of power needed to process and burn it, which reduces emissions.
