RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- North Dakota National Guard soldiers at a training exercise in South Dakota found themselves in a real-life emergency situation.
Four members of the 191st Military Police Company who were doing maintenance on their vehicle at the 26th annual Golden Coyote training exercise near Rapid City heard and responded to a vehicle accident.
The soldiers took control of the situation and cared for an injured person until civilian authorities could arrive and take over.
Maj. Gen. Steven Doohen, South Dakota's adjutant general, commended the North Dakota soldiers.
