BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Democratic state lawmakers from western North Dakota are appealing to Republican Gov. John Hoeven to call a special session of the Legislature.
The lawmakers say the session is needed to provide more money to local governments to repair roads that are being damaged by oil development.
Hoeven and Republican legislative leaders say a special session isn't needed. They say extra money has already been provided for road repairs, and the Legislature is beginning its regular session in January.
The Democratic lawmakers say in a letter to Hoeven on Tuesday that road and bridge repairs are urgent and can't wait until next year.
