BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple plans to begin his first campaign for his job next week.

The Republican incumbent has scheduled campaign stops in Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and Bismarck on Tuesday.

State Republican officials say Dalrymple is making his first race for governor.

Dalrymple has been elected lieutenant governor three times as former Gov. John Hoeven's running mate. Dalrymple took Hoeven's place last December after Hoeven was elected to the U.S. Senate.

Democratic Senate leader Ryan Taylor says he expects to announce his own campaign for governor after the Legislature holds its special session next month.

Republicans already have a declared candidate for governor. Fargo architect Paul Sorum is seeking the GOP endorsement to run for the governorship. Sorum ran unsuccessfully for the Republican U.S. Senate endorsement in 2010.
