BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The head of the North Dakota Farmers Union has been named president of a new international farm group.
The Farmers Union says Robert Carlson will lead the World Farmers Organization, a group aimed at finding solutions to global food security issues.
Carlson was elected Tuesday at the organization's first general assembly in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
The group will be headquartered in Rome.
Carlson says the organization is needed to "lift the power of farmers in the food chain."
