FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Hospitals in the two biggest cities in the Dakotas are collaborating on an effort to help liver patients.
A team of doctors and nurses from Avera Health in Sioux Falls, S.D., is traveling to Essentia Health in Fargo, N.D., once a month. The Forum reports that the partnership means Essentia patients, including those who are waiting for a liver transplant, don't have to travel to the Twin Cities or Rochester in Minnesota for consultations with specialists.
Administrators at Avera and Essentia say the collaboration is not a precursor to a merger. Avera Medical Group provides clinical outreach for many communities. Essentia Health has other similar partnerships, including one involving pediatric cardiologists from Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.
