BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- Three rural North Dakota communities are competing to host a state district judgeship.
The state Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing July 14 to go through the arguments.
The Southeast District judgeship is now based in New Rockford. Incumbent judge James Bekken died of lung disease last month, and the Supreme Court is considering whether the position should be moved.
The district's court administrator says the job should be moved about 20 miles south to Carrington.
The Ransom County Commission wants the position transferred to Lisbon. Ransom County Commission Chairman Neil Olerud says Ransom County has one of the district's biggest caseloads.

Eddy County officials say the judgeship should be kept in New Rockford.
