North Dakota Department of Transportation will not begin the removal of hay stored past the Nov. 1 deadline until Nov. 15 in four district areas due to wet conditions.
The four districts are the Minot, Valley City, Devils Lake and Fargo districts.
State law provides that all hay stored on state highway rights-of-way must be removed by Nov. 1 of each year. State law prohibits hay from being placed in the right-of-way except on the outer edge. Large round bales must not be placed on inslopes or within 60 feet from the outside edge of the driving lane.
In other parts of the state, which include the Grand Forks, Bismarck, Dickinson and Williston districts, hay bales remaining on rights-of-way after Nov. 1 will be removed as directed by the district engineer.
