FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A child care center at North Dakota State University that was to be shut down because of the school's budget problems will remain open.
The school's announcement last spring that the Center for Child Development would close was met by pleas from parents and faculty groups to keep it open. Shuttering it would have put eight people out of work and forced NDSU faculty and staff to find new care for nearly 40 children.
A committee studied the situation and NDSU has now reversed the decision. President Dean Bresciani (bruh-SHAW'-nee) says officials still need to figure out a way to keep it open in the long term. In the meantime, NDSU will pay 20 percent of the center's budget and the rest will come from day care fees.
