BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- North Dakota State University President Joseph Chapman will be leaving campus about a month earlier than he planned.

When Chapman turned in his resignation, he said it was effective Jan. 2. But in a statement Friday, the university said Chapman will stay in office through Nov. 30.

Interim NDSU President Richard Hanson is supposed to take over Dec. 1.

The chancellor of North Dakota's university system says Chapman will be paid for the month of December. He makes about $34,000 a month in salary.

Chancellor William Goetz says Chapman's monthly compensation will add up to more than $40,000 when insurance and other benefits are included.
