Car-trailer crash results in damage

An accident involving a car and a parked truck and trailer at 2:17 a.m. Sunday resulted in more than $6,000 in damage, according to the Jamestown Police Department.
Tyler Snow, 27, Jamestown, was driving a 2001 Honda west in the 1000 block of 10th Street Northeast. The police said Snow ran into a flatbed trailer attached to a 1980 Ford pickup truck parked in the 1000 block of 10th Street Northeast.
Snow was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Damage was estimated at $4,000 for the Honda and $2,000 to the Ford. The police said there was extensive damage to the trailer, but no monetary value for the damage was provided.
Snow was cited for care required when driving.

Tourism grants awarded to two
Ostlie’s Sunnyside Acres in Carrington and Black Leg Ranch in Sterling received 2015 Tourism Expansion Grants from the North Dakota Department of Commerce Tourism Division. Five other North Dakota tourism entities also received grants.
The grants support new or expanding tourism or recreation facilities or designated development areas by providing funding for infrastructure projects.
Tourism Expansion Grants are matching grants requiring the sponsor to provide $1 for every $1 of grant money being requested. The total amount of grant dollars awarded for this program is $100,000 with individual grant amounts ranging from $5,000 to $24,000.
Funds may be used to build, remodel or expand tourism and recreation attractions. The attraction must have the ability to attract a visitor 50 miles one way and retain a visitor for at least three hours.
Ostlie’s Sunnyside Acres will use the grant for an agritourism, on-farm retail store and food trailer. Black Leg Ranch will use the grant for converting a historic barn into an event center.

Eventide holding community picnic
Eventide Jamestown will hold a community picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in the north parking lot. Music, games, including inflatable games, are planned. Grilled burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, beans, watermelon, chips, lemonade and ice cream will be served.
The event is free.

Car-vehicle crash causes damage

A car-vehicle accident at 11:48 a.m. June 9 resulted in more than $5,200 in damage, according to the Jamestown Police Department.
Ciara McPherson, 25, Jamestown, was driving a 2006 Nissan south on 8th Street Southeast, approaching the intersection with 2nd Avenue Southeast.
Joy Neustel, 76, Jamestown was driving a 1994 Buick car west on 2nd Avenue Southeast, approaching the intersection with 8th Street Southeast.
The police said Neustel drove past a yield sign into the intersection. McPherson attempted to steer away from Neustel and Neustel struck the vehicle McPherson was driving.
McPherson and Neustel wore seat belts. There were no injuries.
Damage was estimated at $3,000 for the Nissan and $2,200 for the Buick.
Neustel was cited for disobeying a yield sign.

Two Mont. men die in N.D. crash

WATFORD CITY, N.D. - Two Montana men who were passengers in a pickup died in a rollover accident during the weekend 20 miles north of Watford City.
Pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Saturday just after 10 p.m. were Christopher Holland, 32, of Glendive, and Aaron Clark, 28, of Billings, a North Dakota Highway Patrol report said.
The driver, Dustin Jeane, 32, of Grand Junction, Colo., was injured, while a third passenger, Dylan Mcclain, 23, of Billings, escaped injury.
The patrol said the GMC pickup was southbound on state Highway 1806 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, hitting a highway sign in the west ditch. The driver then overcorrected and the pickup entered the east ditch and rolled, coming to rest on its roof.
Charges are pending against the driver of the pickup, the patrol said.
Three of the men were wearing seat belts, while Clark was not.

Iowa, Las Vegas men died in rollover

GRENORA, N.D. - Two passengers in a pickup that rolled died after being ejected in a crash over the weekend on a county road 8 miles south of Grenora in far northwest North Dakota near the Montana border.
Killed in the crash at 10:15 a.m. Saturday were Brandon Smith, 21, of Essex, Iowa, and Armando Gomez-Gutierrez, 41, of Las Vegas. The men were not wearing seat belts, a North Dakota Highway Patrol report said.
The driver, Zackary McKinzie, 22, of Colville in far eastern Washington, who was also ejected from the 2007 GMC pickup, was taken to Trinity Hospital in Minot.
The report said the pickup was southbound on a Williams County Road 5 when it entered the west ditch. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle went across the road into the east ditch, overturned and came to rest on its wheels.
McKinzie was also not wearing a seat belt, the report said.

Lightning causes saltwater spill

BISMARCK - A lightning strike is being blamed for a saltwater spill in McKenzie County.
Enduro Operating reported Friday that an estimated 440 barrels of saltwater was released and contained about 21 miles south of Alexander, the state Department of Mineral Resources said in a news release.
The release was at the Snowcover 43-19 saltwater disposal well.
The cause was described as a lightning strike to a tank.
A state inspector has been to the location and will monitor additional clean-up.

1 dead, 3 injured in Dickinson crash

DICKINSON, N.D. - A 26-year-old Killdeer man was killed and three others were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on N.D. Highway 22 about 2 miles north of Dickinson.
The man, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla, was traveling north from Dickinson to Killdeer when, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, he veered into the southbound lane and struck head-on a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 about 6:13 p.m.
The Corolla spun on the road and came to a rest facing southeast. The Mercedes, driven by Luke Gaugler, 25, of Dunn Center, left the highway and entered the west ditch.
The driver of the Corolla was not wearing his seat belt during the collision and died at the scene.
A 17-year-old girl riding in the Corolla was injured and was flown from the scene to CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.
Gaugler and his passenger, 21-year-old Tess Gaugler, of Dunn Center, were both injured and were taken to CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson.
The accident shut down the highway for more than an hour.
