FARGO (AP) -- Police say no charges are expected after a mixed-breed pit bull bit a 10-year-old boy in the face on Thursday.

The Forum reported the boy was bitten in the face and foot several times after trying to retrieve a football that had gone over a backyard fence into an adjacent yard.

Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel said officers determined the dog is up-to-date on vaccination shots, but animal control officers will check the dog daily for the next 10 days to see if any signs of disease develop. This is a standard procedure.
