MEDORA, N.D. (AP) -- The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame is getting national recognition.

The Medora-based heritage center has been named the Cowboy Museum of the Year by the American Cowboy Culture Awards of Lubbock, Texas.

North Dakota Cowboy Hall Executive Director Darrell Dorgan says the museum was honored for its work to preserve Western history and culture and the Western Trail that meanders from Brownsville, Texas, through North Dakota on its way to the Canadian border.

Hall officials will travel to Lubbock to accept the award in September.
