Driver dies after rear-ending semitrailer near Williston

The 20-year-old man, from Wildrose, North Dakota, was not wearing a seat belt

WILLISTON, N.D. — A northwest North Dakota man died early Wednesday, Jan. 18, after rear-ending a trailer pulled by a semi near Williston.

According to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol:

Around 6:25 a.m., a Ford F-350 driven by the 20-year-old man was eastbound on Highway 2 about 12 miles north of Williston when it struck the rear of a trailer being pulled by a Peterbilt truck.

The semi was also eastbound on Highway 2 and slowed down with hazard lights on to make a turn at an upcoming intersection.

The driver of the Ford, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to a Williston hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 61-year-old Watford City man, and his passenger, a 42-year-old man from Maricopa, Arizona, were not injured and were wearing seat belts.

The road was wet and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.

Wildrose is about 54 miles northeast of Williston.
