BISMARCK — A Bismarck man is accused of sexually abusing two children, and police are asking anyone with more information to come forward.

Gary Lee Kline, 85, is charged with two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a Class AA felony.

Bismarck police began investigating the alleged sexual abuse of two children on March 14, according to a news release from the Bismarck Police Department.

Kline was arrested March 22, police said. Court documents indicate he pleaded not guilty and was released on a $50,000 bond on March 23 with conditions that he not contact the alleged victims or any minors.

A three-day jury trial is slated to begin July 18 in Burleigh County District Court.

"Mr. Kline is a very good man who has found himself in a very difficult situation, which we are working through," said Chad McCabe, Kline's attorney.

Kline had access to children through his career and volunteer work, police said. According to a story on Kline by The Bismarck Tribune in 2016, he worked for the North Dakota Department of Health for 25 years and served as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

Police asked that anyone with more information about the matter, any other allegations or any other potential victims to call Detective Taylor Roman at 701-223-1212.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
