WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) -- Officials in northwestern North Dakota's oil patch are pushing for some road improvements.
Williston Mayor Ward Koeser (KOH'-zuhr) says officials want an upgrade for state Highway 1804 between Williston and New Town. He says widening and leveling the road would help it better handle the high volume of heavy oil field vehicles.
Three Affiliated Tribes officials are requesting that state Highways 22 and 23 be made into four-lane roads. Tribal Chairman Marcus Levings says city mayors in the area also support the proposal.
Stanley Mayor Mike Hynek says state Highway 8 also needs reconstruction work, including widening. And Koeser says Williston also is pushing to have U.S. Highway 85 made into a four-lane road.
