One fatality, two injuries in Sanborn accident

Three residents of Jamestown were involved in an accident June 3 resulting in one death.

A Jamestown man was killed and two injured in an accident Thursday near Sanborn, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 12;30 p.m. on Interstate 94 near mile marker 276.

Killed was Brandon Jacobson, 24, of Jamestown. Charles Barton, 62, a passenger with Jacobson, and Tyler Goodroad, 30, a truck driver, both of Jamestown were injured in the accident.

Jacobson was traveling east on Interstate 94 in a 2021 Jeep Wrangler that was passing the dump truck and trailer driven by Goodroad. Goodroad slowed as the vehicle passed a grassfire in the ditch.

The Jeep drifted over the center line and sideswiped the drive tires of the truck. The Jeep then lost control, entered the median, and overturned, coming to rest in the westbound lanes.


Jacobson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Units of the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Barnes County Sheriff's Office, Sanborn Fire, Valley City Rural Fire, Barnes County Ambulance responded to the accident.
