One injured in collision north of Buchanan Thursday, July 4

An Iowa resident was injured following a car-semi head-on collision Thursday, July 4, near Buchanan, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 9:50 a.m. on U.S. Highway 52, six miles north of Buchanan.

The patrol said Mohammed Albanna, 33, Fairfield, Iowa, was driving a 2018 Dodge Challenger southbound on Highway 52 when the vehicle crossed over the center line and entered the northbound lane, where it struck a northbound 2016 International truck driven by Dennis Montgomery, 65, Carrington, N.D.

The patrol said Montgomery attempted to avoid the collision by steering to the right shoulder, but the Dodge struck the front left side of the International truck.

Both vehicles entered the west ditch. Albanna was extricated and transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Montgomery was not injured.


Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Charges are pending against Albanna, the patrol said. The crash remains under investigation by the patrol.

Also responding to the crash were the Stutsman County Sheriff's Office, Jamestown Rural Fire Department and Jamestown Ambulance.
