Operation Round Up exceeds $100,000 mark

When Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative members pay their electric bill each month, they are doing more than just buying electricity. They are also giving back to their community.

When Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative members pay their electric bill each month, they are doing more than just buying electricity. They are also giving back to their community.

Dakota Valley members enrolled in Operation Round Up donate as little as a penny or as much as 99 cents each month. Participating members, whose monthly bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar, have poured $100,995 of financial assistance back into the communities where they live since the program's beginning in December 2002.

On May 23, the Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative Operation Round Up governing board met and approved charitable grants totaling $10,200.

The charitable grants approved include the following:

Volunteer EMS of LaMoure, radio/pagers for crew; Brandon Martinez, Alber Pfarr, Morgan Odegard, Jeff Peterson, Allen Wald, Dennis Waldron, James Emo, Simon Aberle, Ty Allen Petersen and Elaine Babcock, all medical expense; VFW/ Community Hall, repairs to hall; Richland County Afterschool Program, After school tutoring program; Hankinson Public School, new playground equipment; Hankinson Public Library, large print books; Lidgerwood Progressive Development, bleachers Lidgerwood Gym; Montpelier School, school improvements; and Edgeley Ambulance Service, portable suction unit.

Since Operation Round Up is an ongoing program, the board will meet again in November to consider additional requests.
