BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- An advisory board says North Dakota legislators should get the same pay increase as state government workers.
The Legislative Compensation Commission gave its recommendation Monday to a separate panel of legislative leaders. The legislators didn't take any action.
Former Jamestown state Rep. Chuck Axtman is chairman of the advisory board. He says he doesn't believe the change will influence lawmakers to give state employees a bigger raise.
Starting next month, North Dakota lawmakers will get $148 a day for attending interim committee meetings. They'll also get $148 for every day of the next regular session.
The proposal says if state workers get a salary increase, those daily payments for legislators should go up by the same percentage.
