BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The cleanup has started at Bismarck's Pioneer Park, which has dried enough from this year's flooding to allow work to begin.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that contractor Tom's Backhoe Service is doing the cleanup work for both Pioneer and Sertoma parks for a combined cost of nearly $231,000.

Park district operations director Greg Smith says Pioneer Park has dried up to the point in which the contractor is able to remove and replace the sand for the volleyball courts.

A different contractor will pressure wash the picnic shelter, toilet building and the park's art pieces and signage.

Park staff will remove tree branches and downed trees.
