A Patriotic Day Camp for youth in grades 3-9 is planned Saturday for Jamestown-area youth.
Students will learn about flag ceremonies, U.S. flag history and patriotic ceremonies and symbols. They will also hear from Jim Carlascio, of Jamestown, who was a prisoner of war during World War II. Crafts and songs are included in the day's activities. The day will end with a flag retirement ceremony.
Megan Kapp, a senior at Jamestown High School, is organizing the event for her Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award project. It will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Park on the east side of Jamestown Reservoir.
The public is welcome to attend the opening flag ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and the closing flag ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The public is also welcome to bring flags that need to be retired to the park before 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Youth who want to attend should call Kapp at 952-1317 to register. There will be a maximum of 70 youth registered. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.
