SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- Dry conditions and gusty winds have created a high fire danger in much of South Dakota and a portion of southwestern North Dakota.
The National Weather Service has issued a "red flag" warning. Jeff Chapman at the agency office in Sioux Falls tells KOKK radio that farmers are one group who should use extra caution, as harvesting equipment can touch off blazes.
The South Dakota warning is in effect through Wednesday evening. The only area of the state that isn't included is a small part of the Black Hills that includes Rapid City. In North Dakota, Bowman and Slope counties are affected, through Tuesday evening.
