Preparations for the 2nd Annual Maddock Rural Renaissance Festival are in full swing. This year's dates are Friday to Sunday.
This festival was organized to give people an opportunity to come together and celebrate life by enjoying the fall season as the area crops are coming in. One of the largest corn mazes in the state will commemorate the 10 year anniversary of 911 this year.
The maze will be open Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon.
Kicking off the festival Friday is a health fair and "Welcome to the Weekend" at the Maddock Memorial Home. That evening a free will offering dinner with be served at the Benson County Events Center west of the Maddock School.
Mylo Hatzenbuhler and Bill Sorenson are providing entertainment at 7 p.m. The corn maze will be open from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday is filled with events and activities for all ages. It starts with a breakfast at the Maddock Community Center and includes a 5K run/walk, pet contest, petting zoo, roping dummy, a flea market and pumpkin patch at the Tandeski Farm east of town, climbing wall, hobby show at the Memorial Home, mini pullers and racing pedal trucks, inflatables, bluegrass music, blacksmithing, kiddie corn maze, business drawings and much more.

There will be more than 40 vendors set up at the Benson County Events Center with a variety of merchandise for people to buy, as well as food vendors at strategic locations around town so no one goes hungry! Among the new events this year is the "Dakota Air The Radio Show" live performance at the Maddock Opera House.
There is limited seating so call the Maddock Business & Technology Center at 701-438-2233 today to get your tickets for the Saturday show. The day's events close with a performance by the popular Johnny Holm Band at 9 p.m. in the Benson County Events Center.
Tickets will be available at the door. On Sunday a community worship service will be held followed by a ham dinner at the Maddock Community Center. The 50/25/25 drawing, as well as other raffle drawings, will be held at the community center at 12 noon. The corn maze will be open Sunday afternoon and a classic/antique "Anything with Wheels" show will be at the city park.
