Riverdale man killed Sunday

A Riverdale, N.D., man was killed Sunday evening in a crash while driving across the Garrison Dam on Lake Sakakawea, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

A Riverdale, N.D., man was killed Sunday evening in a crash while driving across the Garrison Dam on Lake Sakakawea, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The patrol said the 61-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was driving a 1999 Harley-Davidson westbound on N.D. Highway 200 over the dam when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and struck the guardrail. The motorcycle flipped, ejecting the rider, and landed on the rip-rap on the north face of the dam. The rider landed on the shoulder of the roadway.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The motorcycle was totaled.

The crash remains under investigation.
