FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Dakotas-based Sanford Health is upgrading its medical air fleet.
The Forum newspaper reports that Sanford is buying three helicopters and two airplane ambulances. Two of the $7 million helicopters will be based in the Fargo, N.D., area and the third will be in Sioux Falls, S.D. They'll go into service next year.
Sanford air transport director Mike Christianson says the new air ambulances that cost a total of $4.3 million will update older equipment and enable the health system to better serve its territory, which encompasses 130,000 square miles. The planes will be based in Fargo.
Sanford's air fleet will have eight aircraft, including a backup helicopter based in Sioux Falls. It will have 38 pilots and 10 mechanics.
