Sanitary sewer system flushing begins in areas of Jamestown
When flushing is being done, there is a possibility of a sewer smell to occur as traps may be emptied.
The city of Jamestown announced that beginning Tuesday, May 11, citywide sanitary sewer system flushing will begin in the northeast area and will continue into the northwest area of town. When flushing is being done, there is a possibility of a sewer smell to occur as traps may be emptied. Residents are asked to run water down all areas where there is a trap in their residence and/or business. Flushing of all city sanitary sewer lines will continue throughout the summer during regular business hours.
Residents should also note that they should run sump pump water into the storm drain system by placing sump pump hoses out to the curb. It is against city ordinance to permit rain, surface or groundwaters to be carried into the sewer system. Rainwater leaders shall not be connected with or run into the sewer system. Drain tile, sump pumps or other systems designed to eliminate the accumulation of seepage or other groundwaters shall not be connected with or run into the sewer system.
